Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), dedicated to promoting solutions that address global climate challenges and strengthening international cooperation in this area, has begun. Held with SOCAR Green as its principal partner, Baku Climate Action Week is being organized this year for the first time in parallel with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Climate Week.

Now being held for the third time, Baku Climate Action Week brings together representatives of governments and the private sector, investors, international organizations, academia, civil society, youth, cities, and other stakeholders. The event aims to promote concrete climate solutions, establish new partnerships, and expand investment opportunities.

Officials from Azerbaijan’s Ministries of Energy and Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Presidencies of COP29, COP30, and COP31, as well as representatives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and other international organizations attended the opening ceremony of Baku Climate Action Week. Particular emphasis was placed on maintaining the momentum achieved on the climate agenda during the transition from COP29 to COP31, translating commitments and initiatives into practical outcomes, and strengthening closer cooperation among all stakeholders.

Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues and President of COP29, highlighted the importance of Baku Climate Action Week, saying: “It is particularly significant for us that Baku Climate Action Week is continuing for a third year. Our main goal is to strengthen climate action, turn discussions into concrete steps, and drive new cooperation. The fact that the UNFCCC Climate Week is also being held in Baku this year creates an important opportunity to bring countries’ positions closer together ahead of COP31 and contribute to the upcoming negotiations. We believe these discussions will pave the way for tangible results.”

Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 and Project Lead of Baku Climate Action Week, highlighted BCAW’s role in continuing the legacy of COP29 and promoting concrete climate action.

Fatma Varank, Chief Executive Officer of COP31 and Deputy Minister of Türkiye’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, stated: “The strong legacy established by Baku and Azerbaijan’s contribution to climate diplomacy are of great importance to us on the road to COP31.”

Baku Climate Action Week is being held on an increasingly larger scale each year, with an expanding and richer programme. In 2025, 46 events were held as part of the programme, covering more than 30 topics. BCAW 2026 brings together an even broader range of sectors and stakeholder groups, focusing on connecting the priorities of the climate agenda with concrete action, partnerships, and investment opportunities.

This year’s programme is expected to feature 15 major roundtables, along with numerous partner events. Some of the roundtables are being organized in cooperation with the UNFCCC’s 4th Climate Week – Implementation Forum.
